Reading 2008

I realized that I never got around to posting my final reading list for 2008. It is included below for your perusal.

I recommend most of the books on the list. Feel free to comment or email if you have questions about a particular title.

If free-time and inclination ever coincide, I’ll work up a yearly analysis similar to the monthly analyses I did for the earliest months of 2008.

Song of the day

All My Tears by Julie Miller. Video

Covers that I really like: Jars of Clay and Red Letter (This is one of the bands that plays at church. They do a terrific live performance of this song with banjo, wailing electric guitars and uncaged drums blasting at an unhealthy decibel level. When you hear 2000 people belting this song out and clapping it’s a powerful experience.)

Murder in the City by The Avett Brothers. Video MP3

The Ukulele Cover

Note to Wrymouth: This time Settlers was included.

What Facebook Thinks of ME

Like many of my friends I occasionally use a vane, narcissistic Facebook app called Compare People. As it name implies Compare People allows other Facebook users to record whether they think you are “more likely to skip class” or someone they’d rather “be stuck in handcuffs with” etc.

After a couple months of putting myself up for comparison what do folks think of me?

Well, they think I’m smarter (6 of 6), better at science (4 of 4), and have a great sense of humor (5 of 5). They think that I study hard (4of 4), am loyal (4 of 4), and likely to succeed (5 of 6). As a result I’m a popular pick with whom to be trapped on a desert island (6 of 6).

All in all, folks seem to have a relatively high opinion of my brains. This begs the question, do brains make a fellow more popular with the ladies?

According to Compare People: Definitely not!

I’m not attractive (only 3 of 7), because I don’t have a good body (0 of 2), am not cuddly (0 of 2), can’t smile (1 of 4) or dance (0 of 1), and am not sexy (0 of 2). Maybe the fact that I am unfashionable (0 of 3) has something to do with it.

There you have it: what Facebook thinks of me.
