Today, at work, I dumped an entire pallet of starch packaged in 50 lb bags through a vacuum system into a silo. Unfortunately, the vacuum system doesn’t work 100% right and it blows the stuff back out. So for the better part of an hour I was working in a cloud of starch so thick […]

I started working in Processing today rather than continuing on the line. I’ll have to work much harder both physically and mentally but it is better paying and less boring.

job report

24Aug08

The job is pretty boring. It’s assembly line work so most of the time I’m serving as a sort of human machine packing food mixes into their packages at 60+ per minute.
I may be transferring to another department that will be much harder physically but less boring.
The grueling schedule hasn’t run me down […]

Busy, busy, frightfully busy

20Aug08

I am now working from 8a-10:30, M-Sa. As one might expect, has greatly reduced my time available for other things, like blogging. I’ll try to stay in touch but entries will likely be short.
In other news, my new job is not too bad. I’m still in the training phase and I’ve learned less than half […]

too hot

17Aug08

Seattle got up into the 90’s today and the heat was amplified by high humidity. It’s a few minutes to midnight now and it isn’t cooling off enough. Emily and I made a late night jaunt down the hill for sorbet, but, as delectable as the treat was, I’m still too hot to sleep.

Seattle wins!

Splurge!

14Aug08

I just bought the hardcover two-volume Works of Jonathan Edwards. The Westminister Seminary bookstore had it on sale for a mere $25. I wasn’t planning on purchasing the set for awhile but with such a low price I couldn’t resist.
True liberty consists only in the power of doing what we ought to will, and in […]

As Time Drags By

12Aug08

Today, I had the privilege to do something that I haven’t been able to do for more than a week: I got to spend all day at work. It was great. This gap between jobs has been driving me crazy!
Sure it’s nice to wake up and read in bed until lunchtime but the indolence […]

Note for the kids: Roasting marshmallows on chopsticks over a stovetop burner works GREAT!*

*I demonstrated this technique to my siblings this evening.**
**Yes, they know better than to do this by themselves.
Edit: Emily demands credit since I pretty much store the idea from her.

Pray Like Jesus in Gethsemane

03Aug08

This evening, Pastor Mark preached a great message on Jesus’ Gethsemane prayer. He talked about the importance of praying, “Not my will, but yours.” The key take away point for me was that “prayer is less to move the the hand of God than to align the heart of the believer to His will.” God […]
