The New York Times reported awhile back on the trend for men in the United States not to work. I think it’s disgusting.

"[...] calling as head of our family seriously. This means that we are to provide for our family and not ..."

My dad didn’t work for a few years. He quit in 2001ish, and just returned back to work in December of 2006. Now, it wasn’t exactly hard for us to get by without him, seeing as my mother’s income more than covers us, but it was still annoying having him out of work. He filled his days with shopping for needless articles or in front of the computer, bidding on ebay. But, now he has returned to work and actually is enjoying himself.
Having a ’stay at home dad’ is very different from having a ’stay at home mom.’ At least it seems so from observations I’ve made of other families.

Having started the so-called “curse of the drinking class” that is work, I don’t think I can ever sit idly again. I have this overwhelming need to -work-. During my transition from Safeway to my current employment, I pretty much was slowly going mad. I needed something to do. Actually… it was more then that… I had stuff to -do-, what I needed was to work.
To sit idly at home, while still being able to work, seems like a crime to me. A sin even. Actually… I’m pretty sure it is…
