What is an InstaHot?
Ask Rabenstrange has received another inquiry, Randi of I Have to Say asks:
"What is an InstaHot? Am I going to feel old after you answer this question? Did I miss something? Am I behind the times?"
Answer #1:
An InstaHot is a plumbing fixture that dispenses near boiling water. They usually appear alongside a normal kitchen faucet. It's really handy if you feel like a cup of tea or in my case to make Ramen without turning on the stove.
Basicly, the way it works is you have a mini, super-hot water tank installed behind the sink basin. Whenever you want hot water you just turn the knob and it instantly gives you super hot water.
This model, made by In-Sink-Erator looks almost identical to the one we have:

Answer #2:
I don't think so. However these things have been out for a long time. Our family has had one for as long as I can remember.
Answer #3:
Maybe. An InstaHot is a really handy appliance and is probably well worth your time. Whenever I go over to someone's house and they have to put a pot on for tea I long for my Instahot.
Answer #4:
Probably not. I doubt InstaHot owners are in the majority. However, if I were updating a kitchen an InstaHot would be near the top of my list.

I'm generally in favor of InstaHot type devices, but we don't have one in my house anymore. The water in the BrynMar/Skyway area is completely disgusting and barely passes safety standards, plus it tastes gross. Therefore I don't drink any water in my house that wasn't filtered after coming out of the faucet. I now have a self contained tea pot that can boil a litre of water almost as fast as it would take to pour from our old InstaHot faucet. I'd reconsider the InstaHot idea if we put a filter on our water line so that it's filtered first.
I've seen these before. It is pretty neat. I could make all the mac-n-cheese, ramen noodles, and hot chocolate I wanted. Which may not be a good thing....
Oh, this would be soooo nice. It would cut down on my cooking time. The kids could do more since it fits the "I want it now" lifestyle our world is in.
Ramen anyone?!
I love instahot...
They are so wonderful... Our old house had one but this one doesn't which makes me sad. No insanely quick ramen for me anymore.
/cry
I want an InstaHot! Maybe I can convince my parents to install one. It takes for ever for my water to boil when I want tea. It would be nice if I could get it instantly
"Ramen"
You know, it may be cheap, but in the end it'll kill ya!!! HA,ha,ha.
I love it when College Spring break is here. YOu always know, cause the ramen, and frozen pizza's are cleared out!!!
I've never heard of a InstaHot before, but it sounds interesting. It would cut down on time when making something hot to drink.
Bethany :)
I may have to get me one of those gadgets! Thanks for the info!
