Another Option

Tonight I went to an information session for Columbia University.

One of their admissions managers contacted me a week ago and invited me to come to a meeting at the Fairmont Olympic. While I had no intention of actually attending Columbia but I thought it would be pretty neat to apply and get accepted. I might be revealing my vanity to say this but I thought it was worth it just for the bragging rights. Not everyone can say that they were accepted at an Ivy League school.

Anyhow, Mom, Dad and I all went downtown to the Fairmont. I was a little nervous being that it's the poshest hotel in the Seattle. We showed up at the Senate room, ate all the expensive tasting snacks and listened to their representative.

As the evening progressed, I lost a lot of false preconceptions and learned alot of interesting and useful information. Columbia University while very expensive does not constrain its services to trust fund kids. They have alot of programs set up to streamline the admissions process and help meet the financial needs of applicants. I like the programs they offer and as they said, "That blueblood special advantage stuff you here... it's real." A degree from Columbia, especially if you're involved on campus, opens alot of doors that might otherwise be closed, locked and barricaded.

After talking things over with their admissions guy and my parents I've decided to make a strong effort to get in. It'll provide a little diversity to my university options and if it all falls through, at least I'll still have the bragging rights.

*Update*
I was having more problems with my comments but they should be fixed now.

Finally! It works!

Anyways...

Choices are good. That would be cool if you could get it to work out.

Hmmm, you clearly have no idea how expensive it is to live in New York City. I don't care how many scholarships they give you... NYC is outrageously expensive.

Columbia. Wow. Upscale. Very nice, I hope you get in...though I hear it's a tough campus to live on as a Christian. I hope you can be a light to the lost and not be smothered by the opposing views.

There was a movie Mrs. Jim and I saw about a young lady who went to college in NYC. We can' remember the name of the movie, I think she went to NYU but aren't real sure.
Anyway she met an older man and had to reestablish her values. For a while things were bad. Then they broke off and she behaved somewhat better.
"quirkychild's" comment reminded me of this movie. You may have seen it.

wow, that's pretty funny.... did you know that Columbia is one of the most liberal campuses in the country? certainly in the Ivy League. Did you know they don't allow ROTC on campus because of the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy and Columbia's disagreement with it? in other words, they support the gay agenda over the US military.

its funny, reading the rest of your website to think you want to go there. apparently, you haven't done much research yet.

as to the comment on liberalism alive and well @ Columbia...I say the Harvest is plenty and the laborers few...no journey is easy and to go where He leads means He will equip...for God so loved the world does extend to Columbia...who better to send then a laborer...
