A Storm in the Brewing?
I suspect that the fight in the Senate over the Alito nomination will be less fierce than many commentators suppose.
The Gang of 14 is breaking up. Lindsey Graham and Mike DeWine have declared that they're in favor of Alito and will oppose a filibuster. That minimizes the chance of losing the nomination due to RINO's.

Additionally, it appears that Alito may be getting several votes from Red-State Democrats who are up for election in '06. These Senators are very wary of risking their seats by following the lead of liberals who's seats are secure.
Looking at these tidbits combined I tentatively conclude that a successful filibuster is unlikely.

Good! The best thing that could happen right now is a fight. Democrats, obviously, don't like Bush, and Republican support could start slipping because of issues like the border. I'm delighted over Alito's nomination. 'Bout time Republicans did the same thing Dems've been doing for years.
I'm hoping to start a discussion(Okay, debate) on my blog about guns, military, Abu Graib etc. I hope you can join in. Could be, um, interesting. :)
