Going to College
I forgot to mention it earlier but on Thursday I went to the University of Washington. Every Thursday they host what they call “Transfer Thursdays”. Transfer Thursdays consist of an half hour informational session, followed by an half hour of questions and answers. There is also walk in advising available.
Mom and I went, listened to the info session, asked some questions and I was able to get a little time with one of their admissions advisers. It was very confidence building. I do very well in every category of their Comprehensive Review. I have a GPA that's a bit higher than their average of 3.67 (I've got a 3.9 from HS and a 3.84 from BCC). My Associate in Business degree shows significant progress towards my intended major (Economics) as the requirements for the degree included all of the prerequisites for their Economics program. Additionally, I have had no direct financial contribution to my college expenses from my family (I paid for books, tuition, fees, transportation etc. out of my work money as was proper.). According to the adviser, my membership in Phi Theta Kappa also helps me.
Anyhow, I basically have to submit my application at the right time and I'll get in.
The hard part will be getting someone else to pay for my school.
For those of you who don't know the UW's reputation:
“In 2004 UW was second (to Johns Hopkins University) in the United States in federal research funding and has an annual research budget of US$1 billion dollars. In the2004 Top American Research Universities report from the University of Florida, UW ranked 11th overall and third among public institutions. Additionally, UW ranked as the 17th best university in the world in the annual Academic Ranking of World Universities. Many of UW's programs are ranked in the top ten by the U.S. News and World Report college rankings including #1 rankings for both the Medical School - primary care and nursing. Overall, the faculty is ranked fourth among public institutions with National Academy members and fifth in national faculty awards.”

Well congrats. I know how hard it is to try to get funding for school and not have them be school loans. My GPA in highs school was a bit shy of 4.0 and my undergraduate GPA was a 3.879 with a double major. So I know you will do well, based on what you have already done. I know you have been studying for the SAT (at least the SAT lets you have a calculator now. When I took it, I had to do the calculus by hand...is that like saying I had to walk uphill both ways to school?), are you going to take the ACT as well? Have you also considered applying to other universities (Just curious)?
Good Luck...
Using the calculator on the SAT isn't really all that helpful. I only used it on one or maybe two problems which I could have done by hand with a few seconds more time.
I don't plan on taking the ACT. I really didn't need to take the SAT.
I really haven't looked into going to another university. When I have the UW in by hometown and I am almost assured entry, why go anywhere else?
Best of luck with your college stuff! Danika has found alot of scholarship info on fastweb.com, you might check it out!
