Disgusting!

Today the Washington State Supreme Court ruled that a mother's lesbian ex-lover has just as much right to raise her daughter as the mother and father. Even though the women had no legal agreement, the lover never adopted the child and regardless of the fact that the girl's biological mother and father are married and have been raising the girl for the last four years, the courts have awarded the ex-lover as much authority over the child as either of her real parents.

I lack the words to articulate how repulesed I am by this decision or to describe my shame that this gross ruling originated in my state.

Don't think this isn't going to spread. It'll be coming to a court house near you.

that is awful. i bet if the person hadn't been lesbian they wouldn't have ruled in her favor. people talk about "evening the odds." we just talked about the marriage rights as applied to homosexuals in my sociology class; whether they should have them or not. i am totally opposed to treating sin as something normal. the problem there is when people rationalize it and attribute it to genetics. sometimes people want to be blind.

Such things are disgusting, infuriating, and sad all at the same time.

You know... I find that REALLY odd that Washington State would bend that way. I grew up in southern B.C. about two hours away from Spokane, and used to really enjoy going there. Mind you that was about 15 years ago, but still... I just can't picture Washington doing that.

Sycorax,

Most of Washington, particularly the eastern half (where Spokane is) is conservative.

However, the city of Seattle contains almost 1/3 of the population and when combined with a few of the other large Western cities makes Washington State a bastion of liberalism.

As far as I can tell, this is a totally wrong decision as far as law is concerned. It'd be interesting to see the political record of that judge, 'cause it sure seems like political play to me.

Did I mention that the Judge who wrote the opinion was guilty of a hit and run drunk driving charge?

This goes right in the field of "The State Knows Best."

As Hannity put it (in relation to another news story) "Why don't we just hand our children over to the state at birth!?!"
