National Preparedness Month Is BOB Time.

Randi of cheekymama2005.blogspot.com pointed out that September is National Preparedness Month.

As many of you may know I am Right Wing Survivalist Nut-Wing. I live in a bunker buried deep in the heart of Seattle, surrounded by barbed wire and minefields. I have enough food stored to feed my army of minions for fifty years and enough ammo holed away to shoot every person, animal and plant on the planet at least twice. I am ready to face a Class 5 hurricane, 9.8 R earthquake, 50 megaton nuclear missile and an economic collapse at the same time!

Okay, maybe not. Still, I am a little more preparedness conscious than the average American. I'm not even close to an expert though, so don't take my word for gospel on any of this stuff. I'm offering the following only as general guide to get you thinking.

As a special service to my valued readers I will reveal Uber Secret Plan For Dictatorial Survival 3.0.7d: Bug Out Bags. It involves creating a man portable survival kit that will sustain a person with basic knowledge of the outdoors and some common sense for a week or two in a moderate climate. The plan will require adjustment for your individual circumstances and locale. I used bob-oracle.com as my primary source for this article.

First lets cover the subject of motivation. The average person will look at what I am about to present and decry me as a survivalist nut. My response is that this is only true if surviving is nuts. I may be alone in my opinion but I would like to remain here on earth for little while longer. Most people have car insurance and fire insurance, I just want to go a little further and invest in survive-after-an-earthquake insurance, don't-get-looted insurance and car-stuck-in-a-blizzard insurance.

Now that we have that out of the way lets get into the meat of this material. How do I prepare a Bug Out Bag (BOB) and what do I put in it.

Please Note: I have broken this down into several posts so that you can comment on the individual sections with maximum ease and minimum confusion. I will be adding entries onto the end as I have get time so scroll down periodically to check for new material.

Very unique blog template you have! I'm definitely going to copy you!

I have survivalist equipment. It pretty much covers W-88 and multiple warhead ICBM, SLBM related stuff.

Loved the info...When Y2k was around...something that was helpful was a burnt-out car and a burnt-out facade for the house...so it looked like it had already been looted...uuummm...uhhhh...at least that is what I heard...

Good Post...I personally like New Hampshires motto..."Live free or die"...

In All seriousness though something that is also good to have is a notebook computer (with car charger). One is it light-weight...can carry important documents in the event you do not have hard copies...and also with a wirelss capability you can access nearby nodes (if available)for communication...as well as provide entertainment (dvd) for children (assuming you have them).

Ohhh...another thought of essentials for the BOB...

*Sewing Kit - Can repair Clothes and in a pinch work as sutures...

*Vaseline Lip Therapy - Keep lips moist and in the previously mentioned pinch, in combination with the thread...provide a barrier to help keep the thread from fully bonding to the skin when used as sutures.

* Sea Breeze or something like it - not only will provide a clean face and extringent, but the high alcohol content makes it an ideal antiseptic for cleaning.

...Just some previously experienced knowledge from the Phillipines...Long Story...

Hi Rabenstranger,

So you are aware of the origins of the fabulous VW! Not many people know that Hitler was one of the masterminds behind its creation. Did you know that Mr. Porsche was too? And did you know that Mr Hitler built a VW factory which included nearby housing for employees (it was supposed to be like a utopian work-community) and called it "Strength through Joy" (well, that is the translation)? I thought you might enjoy this bit of trivia.

Hope you don't mind that I used your BOB post as a vehicle for my VW comments!

PS What does "Rabenstranger" mean?

While on the subject of German auto trivia, BMW also got its start in WWII building aircraft for Luftwaffe. The BMW logo symbolizes a white propeller on a blue sky.

Rabenstrange and The Rabenstranger are merely names that I use because I like they way they sound. They have no particular meaning or substance behind them.

Hmmm, what does Rabenstrange think of watchtowers for guarding ones compound per se? Whilst they do signal ones presence, the vantage point for establishing a wide free fire perimeter surely counts in their favour
