I Like to Eat, Drinking is Good Too

If you are caught away from home or forced to leave your home during an emergeny you will appreciate having something to eat and drink.

As with the packs there are lots of options available for food. You can pack canned veggies, chili or Spam. Canned goods are heavy and bulky but easy to prepare and if you pick the right ones, relatively tasty. Military MREs and backpacker style free dried meals are good options but expensive, Powerbars and other high protien energy bars contain lots of calories and nutrition and are compact, cheap and edible.

One thing to consider: many "experts" recommend purposely eating food that will make you constipated. This can be very helpful for short term sanitation.

Water is another primary concern. I recommend throwing a few water bottles into your BOB. You can also get “survival water” in tin packages but I think its a little silly when you can get 50 water bottles at Costco for a few bucks.

Since there is already loads of info out there on storing food and water for use in emergencies I won't flog a dead horse by adding my less experienced two cents. Instead I've provided a page of links at the end of this article that should point you in the right direction.

Remember to pack eating utensils. Eating with your hands is unsanitary.
