Preparing for Duck Tape Day
Yesterday I began my preparations for Duck Tape Across America Day.
In the spirit of the holiday, I constructed a few Duck Tape accessories. Namely three styles of wallets.
The first, was a small affair constructed according to instructions found @ http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/howto/. I didn't proportionate it quite right but it is still serviceable. Even though it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped the experience gained in its creation was helpful in my later endeavors.
The second wallet is a large but otherwise traditional bi-fold complete with picture window. This time I used a normal wallet as a general model. The wallet has five card pockets and a cavernous body capable of holding hundreds of dollars in small-unmarked bills. This wallet has the best workmanship. The pockets are consistently spaced, the tape is smooth and unwrinkled and I was very careful to seal my edges. All in all, I think this is my favorite of the wallets. While I initially thought that it would be a nice to have something smaller I have come to the conclusion that so long as it fits comfortably in my pocket, bigger really is better.
The third wallet was an attempt to create something a little smaller. I succeeded in making it smaller using a pattern I designed myself, that isn’t really quite like anything I’ve ever seen. I used a different roll of the Redneck Chrome for this wallet. Unfortunately this variety had much stickier adhesive and thinner backing that made it difficult to apply evenly. While I would generally prefer the stronger adhesive and higher thread density of this tape for repair or reinforcement purposes it was less suitable for wallet construction than its predecessor. Anyhow, despite the new tape this wallet turned out very nicely with its 6 pockets and window. The closing mechanism I engineered also seems to work well.
Anyways that is how I have been investing my valuable time this weekend. Hopefully by May 21st I will be ready to unleash, the fullness of my Duck Tape creativity for the grand celebration.
