Media Review: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
At 12:00 A.M. last Friday morning I was sitting in my comfy third row chair as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy opened up.
I have enjoyed the HGttG franchise a great deal. I have listened to the original audio broadcasts and read the omnibus edition of the book, (including all 5 of the books). Needless to say ever since I heard that their was going to be a Feature Film written by Douglas Adams himself I eagerly waited for its release.
I was not disappointed. While the movie was not spectacular, I think it was successful in capturing the soul of the series. The main, memorable lines of the books and radio show were included and the somewhat cartoonish look to the ships and sets fit quite well. The actors chosen for the various roles were also very good although I was a little disappointed that Rowan Atkinson wasn’t cast.
The major downfall of the picture is that I think it would be difficult to understand if you were previously unfamiliar with the series. There simply wasn’t time in the movie to fully develop the characters and all the complexity of the world in a standard length film.
My rating is *** and a half out of *****.

It looked cool but I want to read the books first. Sometimes I think that those people who make movies(there must be a name for them but I just don't remember it) just ought to forget about the timespan and go for as long as need be. Particularly when it's based on a book. You can always add an intermission or split it in parts.
We were in the second row...
Yeah, I guess you're right, TBQelite, we moved so we could prop our feet up on that bar thingie.
